Arizona Green Plumbers’ John Smith Wins 2010 Green Plumber of the Year Award

October 19th, 2010

The Arizona Green Plumbers' President John Smith and GreenPlumbers USA CEO Steve Lehtonen

John Smith, President of The Arizona Green Plumbers, was selected as Green Plumber of the Year 2010 by Green Plumbers USA, an organization of over 6000 members.  John accepted the award at the national Water Smart 2010 Innovations conference in Las Vegas on October 7.  The recipient is selected for doing extraordinary work for charity to the community, for commitment to employee training, for upholding the Green Plumber code of ethics, and for implementing the Green Plumber brand within the profession.

Smith is on the Board of Directors of the Ronald McDonald House of Southern Arizona and was recently recognized for his work in helping the Ronald McDonald House of Southern Arizona earn its Water Smart Business recognition from the City of Tucson.  John arranged for donations of water-saving fixtures, including toilets and showerheads, and then donated his time and the labor to install them in the house, resulting in a projected 20% water savings.

Each Saturday at 3:00 p.m. Smith hosts “The Arizona Green Plumber” radio show on www.blogtalkradio.com/thearizonagreenplumber where topics have included xeriscaping, green cleaning products, water saving measures, and even an interview with the author of a book for children on recycling.  He has also appeared as a guest on Mrs. Green Goes Mainstream on KNST and at various “green-themed” events in Tucson where he demonstrates rain barrels, high-efficiency toilets, and educates about other water saving devices and habits.

“Becoming a Green Plumber has given me the confidence and enthusiasm to build a better relationship with my community.  By providing workshops, seminars, and participating in other community events, I have had the opportunity to demonstrate that the role of a 21st century plumber has evolved beyond making plumbing and drain repairs to serving as an ambassador to help protect Earth’s precious resources,” Smith states.

The Arizona Green Plumbers is a division of Rooter 2000 Plumbing and Drain.  Collectively, they have served Arizona’s plumbing needs since 1987.  For more information contact John Smith at 520-884-0040.

Who’s The Greenest of Them All?

August 10th, 2010

Voters in Mrs. Green’s recent contest have chosen our very own John Smith as “The Greenest of Them All!”  We are honored that John was recognized for his efforts in helping to spread the “green” message.  While all the contest nominees have made extremely valuable contributions to the conservation cause through their many unique talents and services,  we think that John really continues to stand out as he pushes forward to both learn more and educate others about the value of living a sustainable lifestyle.  John’s message to start “living greener” by simply starting to change our habits is encouraging to both individuals and businesses who want to improve their practices.  Congratulations, John, for your hard work!

Tucson Community School

June 9th, 2010

Rooter 2000 – The Arizona Green Plumbers, had a busy day in Tucson doing a toilet conversion at Tucson Community School.  The school elected to switch their old fixtures over to high efficiency units, and we were there to help make the change go smoothly.  Water saving improvements such as these benefit both the customer (by lowering water bills) and the environment (water is the Earth’s most precious resource!)

Here, one of our technicians can be seen prepping the flange for the new toilet.

Here is one of the old toilets that we replaced.

This preschool toilet’s tank held 5 gallons!  Just think of the amount of water that was being wasted with each flush.  (And preschoolers will flush just to watch the water go down!)

The date stamped on the toilet lid tells the story…it was manufactured on October 24, 1952!

The tanks were so large that they had to be bolted to the wall for safety!  It was definitely time for a positive change!

This picture shows one of the old toilets (on the left) next to one of the new, high efficiency toilets (on the right.)  Thank you, Tucson Community School, for placing your trust in us to help you upgrade your fixtures!  By choosing high efficiency toilets, you are showing a commitment to helping the environment by saving water.  We appreciate your business and your support in this important endeavor!

The Arizona Green Plumbers Go to Costco!

May 16th, 2010

We were proud to participate in the Children’s Miracle Network business show today at the Grant Road Costco in Tucson.  We had over 500 visitors to our table, including the mascot from the Tucson Toros!

On display at our booth were the working Niagara 1.28 gal/flush flapperless toilet, a variety of low water usage shower heads, and the Moby rainwater collection barrel.

Roger Belen and John Smith from the Arizona Green Plumbers were on hand to answer questions and pass out our signature “Water Hugger” buttons.  We had a fantastic time  introducing our business and our products to many new faces, and visiting with some familiar ones, as well.  Thank you, Costco, for taking great care of us today and for providing us with such a fine location to share our message!

Great Video On How Well High Efficiency Toilets Work!

May 11th, 2010

Have you ever wondered how well the new high efficiency toilets work?   While the “low flush” toilets of the past don’t have the most stellar repuation, today’s high efficiency toilets save water AND work great.  Still not convinced?  Take a look at this video demonstrating  just how effective high efficiency toilets are at their job.  These toilets are tested with miso paste wrapped in plastic wrap.  This measures the exact mass of what the toilets are capable of flushing (and believe it or not, they’ve been proven to flush even more!)  The first toilet shown is the Niagara 1.28 gallon/flush flapperless toilet that Rooter 2000 and The Arizona Green Plumbers recommend and install.  Yes, that’s the very same toilet as seen on Mrs. Green’s World’s YouTube video!  It earns its praise simply by doing exactly what it promises…it saves water while still providing a quality product!  Its great reputation is well deserved.  Call today to have one installed in your home and see for yourself what everyone is so excited about!

Continuing Education For Our Employees

May 6th, 2010

Rooter 2000 and The Arizona Green Plumbers joined forces again to provide continuing education to their employees.  This time, the service technicians were brought up to speed on some new products offered by Bradford White, which included a new high efficiency water heater.   Thanks to Steve Smith from Farnsworth Supply for taking the time to go over these products with us!
